Nuri Şahin & Neven Subotic Stiftung

For a week, I was in Ethiopia with my dear friend and former teammate Neven Subotić. Since 2013, Neven has been working tirelessly to provide access to clean water in some of the world’s poorest and driest regions. Through his foundation, he has been building water wells to prevent hygiene-related diseases and to encourage children to attend school. Together with the foundation’s supporters, he has helped open nearly 100 wells so far.

He always told me, ‘To truly understand how a water well can change a person’s life, you have to witness it yourself.’ He was right. Thanks to him, I experienced one of the most unforgettable moments of my life.

I’m endlessly grateful to him for allowing me to be part of a movement of goodness that knows no borders. From now on, we will work hand in hand to bring smiles to the faces of children across the world.
