Nuri Şahin was born on September 5, 1988, in Germany. He began his football career at the age of 12 by joining Dortmund's youth academy. He moved up quickly through the ranks and made his Bundesliga debut at just 16, becoming the youngest player to appear and score in the Bundesliga that season. He played six years there, including a year on loan at Feyenoord. He played a key role in Dortmund's Bundesliga championship under Jürgen Klopp in the 2010–2011 season, which attracted the attention of Europe’s big clubs. He transferred to Real Madrid in 2011 and won the LaLiga title. He then transferred to Liverpool.

In 2013, he returned to Dortmund, which is his childhood club. After playing there until 2018, Nuri Şahin played for Werder Bremen and Antalyaspor before ending his active football career. Nuri Şahin played 52 times for the Turkish National Football Team before retiring. After his successful playing career, he began his coaching career at Antalyaspor. He served there from 2021 to 2023 and broke unbeaten records in the club’s history. He then took on the role of assistant coach at Dortmund, the team where he began his football career. Following this role, he took over as head coach in 2024. For the 2025–2026 season, Nuri Şahin is the head coach of RAMS Başakşehir Football Club.

Nuri Şahin has made significant contributions both on and off the field. He studied at Harvard Business School, one of the world’s top universities. One of his social responsibility projects involved helping children in the world’s poorest regions, where access to clean water is limited. For this project, he received the “Social Fair Play” award from the Turkish Olympic Committee.
