Merve Dinçel Kavurat was born in 1999 in Ankara, Türkiye. Encouraged by her family, she began practicing taekwondo at a local sports gym in her neighborhood. After showing early promise, she transitioned to a professional career. She achieved her first international success in 2021, winning the gold medal in the 53 kg category at the Riyadh Women’s Open World Championship. In 2022, she captured gold at the European Championships in Manchester, gaining international attention.

In 2023, Merve won gold in the 49 kg category at the World Taekwondo Championships in Baku, earning the title of World Champion and being named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. That same year, she claimed silver medals at the European Games in Krakow and the World University Games in Chengdu. She also competed in the 2023 World Grand Prix, winning bronze in Manchester and gold in Paris, and was honored as the “Best Female Taekwondo Athlete of the Year” by the World Taekwondo Federation.

In 2024, she continued her success with a silver medal at the European Championships in Belgrade. Representing Türkiye at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Merve reached the quarterfinals and ultimately finished fifth after repechage rounds.

In 2025, she won gold in the 53 kg final at the 10th WT Presidential Cup held in Sofia, Bulgaria, further cementing her status as one of the top athletes in her weight class.
